
Bal Vidya Mandir was established in 1978 by Late Brig K P Pande (Retd), Commander, Sub Area, Bhopal.
It was then restructured and renamed as Army School, Bhopal and inaugurated by Lt Gen Chandra Shekhar, AVSM, GOC 21 Corps and Founder Chairman, Brig Ramesh Bhatia, VSM on 17 July 1995. During these years, the school was located in the barracks of 3EME Centre, Bairagarh, Bhopal.
Class X started in 1997 and XII in the year 2000.
The new building at Dronachal Hills was inaugurated on 25th July 2008 by Mrs. Kirti Kapoor, President, Central FWO and the name was modified to Army Public School (APS), Bhopal. The building’s unique architecture is based on Sudarshan Chakra which is the formation sign of the XXI Corps of the Indian Army.
With the changing educational landscape and introduction of New Educational Policy in 2020 the Army Pre-primary school D-Top was merged with APS Bhopal on 23 June 2023 and later Army Pre-primary school, Sultania Infantry (SI) Lines was also merged on 01 Nov 2023.
They were renamed as APS Pre-primary Wing, D-Top and APS Pre-primary wing, SI Lines.
Starting its journey to move towards Inclusive education in 2020, by July 2024, the school became barrier-free and adopted Individualised Education Program (IEP) for Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
On 19 December 2024, the school received certification for ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
